Rules Concerning Slaves and Collaring

Rules Concerning Slaves

As a rule, the slaves on Teletus Island are purchased from merchant ships that deal with the transport of slaves for the purpose of slaves.

Slaves sold on Teletus are to be sold either at the main auction square or in private business dealings between individuals.

An individual may own as many slaves as he likes and dress them as he chooses except they may not be dressed in clothing that are the common dress of the free people of Teletus.

Female slaves should not wear robes, veils, beads in their hair, rings, slippers in warm weather or any garment made of anything but silk in the summer weather and fur lined leather in the winter months.

Female slaves may range from Island slaves owned by the Island and in effect by the Ubar to privately owned slaves.  They may serve as kettle girls, cleaning girls, cooks, nannies, serving or servery girls, pleasure or passion girls.

Male slaves may serve only a few purposes and may be owned by the Island and in effect the Ubar, or privately owned slaves.  They may serve as work boys to be used in heavy labor such as construction or mining, fishing or as pack boys, who carry heavy products for the merchants and stock shelves and counters, oar boys on ships, or pit boys.

Male slaves should be dressed in leather britches and a vest, bicep bands as a mark of their slavery is not acceptable, all slaves must wear collars.

Mouthy slaves will not be tolerated and there are a few ways they will be dealt with.

A mouthy slave, regardless of who owns them, can and will be punished by the person they have offended unless the owner is present.  The owner will determine the punishment for the insolent slave which may be nothing less than 10 lashes with a whip and may include the death of the slave depending on the level of the offense.

It must be understood that the Ubar, En-Sword, Se-Sword, and En-Slave Trainer all hold in their power the right to punish an insolent slave even in the presence of the owner. All other citizens of Teletus hold the right to punish a slave owned by someone else if the owner is not present at the time of the offense.  This punishment will not be met with reprisal or retaliation from the owner.  If the owner feels the punishment was un-due then they may come to the Ubar or En-Sword for settlement of the issue.   If it is found that the punishment was un-due, recompense will be awarded to the owner of the slave for damages and the one who did the punishing will be punitively fined for their actions up to and including their own enslavement depending on the level of the offense.

The killing of slaves - Slaves may be killed for their bad behavior and there is no need to roll dice to do so unless the slave is a pit slave well trained as a fighter.  However, understand this, if a Pit slave commits an insolent act worth of his death, and then fights his punishment, once he is overcome, and he may be subdued by more than one if necessary, he can and will be killed at that point without a roll of the dice.  His capture and being subdued must however then be played out and dice rolled.

Escaped slaves - Any slave who runs and escapes their name and full description will be sent out to as many on Gor as possible including to the Chronicle.  If and when that slave is found they will be killed on the spot that is the only acceptable punishment for a run away slave whether it is male or female and regardless of whom it belongs to.

Fighting slaves - Female Pit slaves may only fight Female pit slaves and male pit slaves may only fight male pit slaves unless he is invited to spar with a free man.  If a free man takes his female pit slave into the sands to spar publicly, he will be viewed as weak and unacceptable and may be collared by any Free Man regardless of the citizenship.

Free women and slaves - Free women, who are citizens of Teletus, have all the same rights in the punishment of slaves as free men up to and including the killing of an insolent slave.  Free men of the Island are expected to support and enforce the rights of those Free Women who are citizens of our Island.

The collaring of a Free Woman - Free Women, whether citizens of Teletus or not, who are found to be insolent, disrespectful and indignant toward the Free Men who are citizens of Teletus may be collared but only after the incident has been reviewed by both the En-Sword and the Ubar of the Island.   The woman will then be publicly denuded, collared, lashed and begin her journey into the life of a slave.

If the Free Woman is not a citizen of Teletus, she will more than likely not be collared but shipped from the Island and banned from returning.

The criteria for the collaring of a free woman without the need for intercession of the Ubar are as follows:

#1.  Public drunkenness or the imbibing of strong drink such as paga, sapaga, sulpaga, meade, non diluted palm wine, or non diluted kalana.

#2.  Public bathing that entails nudity, or near nudity.

#3.  Public nudity for any other reason than emergency medical treatment such as giving birth or field surgery for an injured woman will be a collarable offense.

#4.  Any Free Woman who enters the sands of the fighting arena for the purpose of fighting either with another woman, or with a man, can and will be collared on the spot.  What city she is a citizen of will have no bearing on the issue and any free man may collar her, his citizenship not withstanding.
